MARKLEVILLE — Several Halloween celebrations took place Saturday in South Madison County, including one at Daybreak Community Church in Lapel and Trunk N Treat 2024 at Markleville Community Park.
“Attendance was up this year. We had beautiful weather for our trunk or treat! Another successful event!” said Dianna Smith, who helped organize the Markleville event. “We have a great group of town people that help put this together every year.”
There were decorated trunks, a costume contest and a variety of treats being passed out. Markleville Police Department gave away doughnuts, while Psi Phi Sorority Ladies passed out hot dogs and drinks. Adams Township Fire Department and East Christian Church also participated.
Markleville’s trick-or-treating hours are set for 6-9 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 31, along with Pendleton and Ingalls.
Lapel’s hours are 5-8 p.m.
During its trick-or-treating time, Pendleton will block off Broadway Street between High and Walnut streets to automobile traffic. The strip — where homeowners are known to be particularly spirited with their observance — will be closed “to safely accommodate the common high foot traffic in the area,” the town website states.
