PENDLETON — Growing older or being a caregiver for a person growing older can be scary.
Senior Helpers, a business that moved to Pendleton from Greenfield in May, exists to help ease some of those worries.
Bree Hill, who is a nurse, has owned the 16-year-old company since 2023.
“We want to help people age in place and get the care they need,” Hill said.
The business is located at 753 E. Water St. in Penleton’s Falls Park Plaza.
“We are here to help in a non-clinical way,” Marketing Director Marta Guinn said.
They have 163 employees in 17 counties in central Indiana.
”We can help with light housekeeping, grooming, running errands and reminding clients to take their medication,” Guinn said. “We are not allowed to do anything medical.”
They can also provide transportation and companion care among other services.
Although they are qualified to take care of any adult, their target market is senior citizens. They are also available for short-term care for people following surgeries or injuries.
All their caregivers go through dementia training, called Senior Gems, Guinn said.
“We are planning to offer a dementia live class in January,” she said. “The class will allow families of dementia patients to use sensory inhibitors, which simulate what dementia is like for their loved ones.”
When a potential client calls Senior Helpers, an appointment is made to go speak with them.
Both the company and the client discuss expectations and create a plan of action that both sides are happy with. Veterans and surviving spouses may be eligible for VA benefits.
Senior Helpers plans an open house from 2-5 p.m. Nov. 22.
