‘Sons’ offers Saturday breakfast
PENDLETON — A Sons of AMVETS “All U Can Eat Breakfast” is set for 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at AMVET Post 26, 939 S. Broadway St., Pendleton.
The bar includes biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs or eggs to order, hash browns, French toast, sausage patties, sausage links, bacon, coffee, milk and juice.
The cost is $12 for people 11 and older and $8 for those 10 and younger.

Art classes on the schedule
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society has a variety of art classes on its schedule, including:
Beginning Watercolor with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16. Participants will paint a watercolor landscape. Cost: $50, plus $8 if using provided paints and brushes.
Inaugural Lunch and Learn Series — noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. Participants will join restaurateur Teddi Mangas-Coon in the kitchen at Gallery 119 to learn to “Make Baklava like a Greek Yia Yia.” Participants will bake a small pan of baklava using 60 layers of filo dough, walnuts, pecans, butter, sugar and honey. All supplies will be provided. While baking, bring a bag lunch to enjoy. Coffee and water will be provided. Cost is $30. Class limited to 10 people.

New art show
PAS will begin a new art show — “Wonderful World of Animals, at its First Friday event, set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Gallery 119.
Ann Johnson will be the judge for the show, which will award first- through third-place awards and People’s Choice, with prized ranging from $20 to $70..
The gallery is located at 119 W. State St. Its regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
American Legion plans activities
PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:
• Homemade beef and noodles, 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, served until they’re gone
Regular events
All-you-can-eat wings: 5-8 p.m. Thursdays
Lunch specials (as well as regular menu): starting at 11 a.m. weekdays, until food runs out
Happy Hour: 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
Treasure Hunt drawing: 7 p.m. Fridays
The Legion’s general membership meeting is 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month. Public is welcome.
The facility is smoke-free.
The Legion is also:
• Actively recruiting volunteers and sponsors to expand its service.
• Looking for local businesses that want to be part of its veteran-friendly program, which involves creating a list of specials and discounts for veterans.

Purdue Alumni Club plans Oct. 8 dinner
MADISON COUNTY — Purdue Alumni Club of Anderson and Madison County plans its Fall Dinner meeting for 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at Purdue Polytechnic Anderson, 1920 Purdue Parkway, Anderson.
Following dinner and a short business meeting, Trevor Foley — senior director of international engagements and alumni travel, Purdue for Life Foundation — will speak on Purdue Travel Services.
A member of the Purdue for Life staff will be on hand to answer questions about the alumni association.
The price for the Italian dinner is $15 for people 13 and older, and $10 for people 12 and younger.
Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship fund.
Purdue alumni as well as friends of Purdue are welcome to learn about travel opportunities.
Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted.

Lapel choirs offer year’s first concert
LAPEL — Lapel High Schoool’s music department will perform the first choir concert of the school year at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the school auditorium.
The 40-member show choir and the 54-member high school choir will perform separately and then combine their voices in the finale, which will recognize and thank veterans for their service.
Highlights of the hour-long show will include the country number “Wagon Wheel,” “Viva La Lida” by Coldplay, “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night, Britney Spears’ “Baby … One More Time” and several others.
After the show, there will be a “garage sale” of costumes, props, T-shirts, DVDs, etc. left from the last several years. Audience members are encouraged to find things they want or need and just make a donation to the choir department.
Show Choir Patrons will be admitted free of charge; for others, the charge is $6 for adults and $3 for students.
