There is a month-long added attraction at the September 2024 South Madison Visual Art Show at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.
A replica of “Mrs. Daugherty’s Kindergarten” is featured in the gallery window.
Enhancing this special Visual Art Show will be a display of the furniture, educational materials and other memorabilia from the 1950s to the 1990s-era Pendleton kindergarten.
Quoting a former Pendleton resident, “When Charlene Daugherty established her kindergarten in the garage of her East State Street home, she probably didn’t know there would be 40 years of inspiring Pendleton children ahead of her. She fostered natural creativity and introduced over 1,500 children to the arts, literature and music in ways that would be hard to duplicate in today’s world.”
If you were one of Mrs. Daugherty’s students and attended the famous kindergarten under the Ginkgo tree, or if you’ve simply heard of her over the years, why not refresh your childhood memories by attending this event?
You may even find your class picture or your handprint that you had made.

Judy Wrenbarger and Kathy Barber are Pendleton residents whose children attended Charlene Daugherty’s kindergarten class in the 1960s and ‘70s.
