INDIANAPOLIS — Wayne and Jan Fox of Markleville were honored for their longtime and ongoing contributions to the town with a state 2024 Golden Hoosier Award.

There were 17 winners of the award this year, presented during a recent ceremony at the Statehouse.

“Each of these Hoosiers has dedicated their life to serving communities across Indiana,” Lt. Gov. Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development said in a press release. “They exemplify the Hoosier spirit of wanting to help, wanting to give back and being generous. Congratulations to the 2024 Golden Hoosier Award winners!”

Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging and AARP Indiana established The Golden Hoosier Award in 2008.

The award honors senior Hoosiers for their lifetime of service and commitment to their communities, the press release stated, and since the start has been presented to more than 200 residents.

To be eligible, awardees must currently be an Indiana resident, age 65 or older and have been a volunteer in the community for the past three years. Each awardee was nominated by someone in their community who recognized their significant contribution to their community.

“Wayne and Jan have been committed to our community and state throughout their lives,” said District 53 State Rep. Bob Cherry, who helped present the awards. “I’m proud to help honor them for their countless contributions and recognize the positive impact they have made on Madison County.”
