Craig breaks all-time passing touchdown record as Bulldogs move to 4-0

TRAFALGAR — Lapel kept its perfect start to the season alive with another dominant performance.

The Bulldogs traveled to Indian Creek High School and defeated the Braves 42-12 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

With the win, Lapel is now ranked No. 8 in the Class 2A Indiana Football Coaches Association poll.

A 21-point second quarter fueled the Bulldogs to their fourth win in as many weeks.

The three second-quarter scores put them ahead 28-0 at the break, the lead grew to 35-6 midway through the third quarter and was 42-6 heading into the fourth.

Leading the offense outburst was quarterback Devin Craig, who broke the school record for career touchdowns in the win.

His final touchdown pass of the night – an 8-yard pass to Brice Burress – pushed his career total to 54, breaking the Lapel record.

The score was his fifth of the night and 14th on the season.

He completed 21 of his 26 pass attempts for 384 yards to go along with the five touchdowns.

Four receivers were responsible for the five touchdowns.

Burress hauled in six passes for 142 yards and a score, Rylie Hudson caught seven passes for 133 yards and a touchdown, Jaxon Cripe caught a pair of touchdown passes, and Jack Miller caught two passes for 49 yards and a score.

Miller added 71 yards rushing and one score on the ground.

Isaiah Young and Jayden Lindsey each had big defensive performances.

Young had a team-high 17 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack, while Lindsey added 13 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack.

Along with the big offensive night, Hudson had one interception.

Lapel will look to remain unbeaten tomorrow at home against North Decatur.

The Chargers are 3-1 on the season with convincing victories versus South Decatur, Monroe Central and Shenandoah. Their lone loss was a 34-8 defeat to Eastern Hancock.

Lapel defeated Shenandoah 41-21, while North Decatur won their match-up with the Raiders 27-7.

Corbin Thackery leads the Chargers on the ground with 193 yards and six touchdowns through the first three weeks of the season. He has also added three scores through the air. Stats from week four were not updated as of press time.

At quarterback, Mason Morris has completed 50% of his passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns.
