Visual Arts Exhibit coming up
PENDLETON — The 2024 South Madison Visual Arts Exhibit will take place at Gallery 119 in Pendleton from Sept. 6-30.
This exhibit is open to artists from Fall Creek, Adams and Green townships. Any art medium except video art is welcome.
Artists may deliver entries to Gallery 119 during regular business hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays) through Sept. 4.

Lapel Lions Club plans annual fish fry
LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club will play host to its 78th annual all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7, at the Lions Building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.
The adult all-you-can-eat fish meal is $12 and includes fish, a choice of two sides (slaw, French fries, baked beans), and a drink.
The child’s meal is $6 (under 10 years) and is NOT all-you-can-eat.
Desserts will also be available.
The Lions Club is offering three prizes from the sale of raffle tickets: $300 for first prize, $100 for second prize, and $50 for third prize.
Lapel High School Show Choir will perform its first show of the school year.
American Legion plans activities
PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:
Sept. 9 — new chicken noodle dinner
Sept. 13, DJ Dex and karaoke, 8-11 p.m.
Sept. 14 — all-you-can-eat breakfast returns, 7:30-10:30 a.m.
Sept. 21 — band Stella Luna returns, 7-10 p.m.
Regular events
All-you-can-eat wings — 5-8 p.m. Thursdays
Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays, until food runs out
Happy Hour — 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
Treasure Hunt drawing — 7 p.m. Fridays
The Legion’s general membership meeting is 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month. Public is welcome.

PAS Third Annual Plein Air Competition
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Third Annual Plein Air Competition is Sept. 28.
The competition is open to any painter. There will be three divisions in the competition: Division 1, adults; Division 2, children up to age 14 (must be accompanied by an adult); Division 3, ages 14-18.
This is an open-air painting using any medium, no size limitations. Framing is optional. In case of rain, participants may complete their work from any protected area of their choosing. Participants are welcome to paint around downtown Pendleton and surrounding parks and historical settings.
Participants may register either online at https://pasgallery119.org/ or at the headquarters at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton. Check-in is 9-10 a.m. There will be an entry fee of $25 for adult or $30 on same-day registration. Youth registration is $10 each.
A light lunch will be provided.
Art created the day of the event will be displayed in Gallery 119 and judged. Winners will be announced following the judging. Judge is Marylin Witt.

Art classes on the schedule
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society has a variety of art classes on its schedule, including:
Beginning Water Color with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11. Participants will have the chance to create a window/floral watercolor painting with basic concepts of painting with water. Cost is $50.
Jewelry Class with Tracy Davidson — 1-6 p.m. Sept. 29. Beginner or intermediate class, students will design unique rings involving lots of texture. Simple soldering and participants will choose from an assortment of gemstones. Cost is $65.
Inaugural Lunch and Learn Series — noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. Participants will join restaurateur Teddi Mangas-Coon in the kitchen at Gallery 119 to learn to “Make Baklava like a Greek Yia Yia.” Participants will bake a small pan of baklava using 60 layers of filo dough, walnuts, pecans, butter, sugar and honey. All supplies will be provided. While baking, bring a bag lunch to enjoy. Coffee and water will be provided. Cost is $30. Class limited to 10 people.

Town seeks input on revitalization plan
PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton is in the early stages of submitting a planning grant application to Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to develop a new Downtown Revitalization Plan.
Planning grants are funded with Federal Community Development Block Grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The program aims to encourage communities to plan for long-term holistic community development.
