Parks department offers talks
PENDLETON — Pendleton Parks Department will lead a 1-hour “Nature Journaling and Hike” program at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 22, meeting at the Community Building in Falls Park.
The presentation is part of a weekly series of interpretive programs about the outdoors that started in May.

Aug. 22
Nature Journaling and Hike (1 hour) — Spend time creating a nature journal. Group will hike on parts of the Red Loop to see what to add in a journal. Geared toward pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, but all ages are welcome. Meet in the Community Building.
Aug. 29
*Nutty about Squirrels! (30 minutes) — Indiana is native to four species of squirrels. People can learn about the different species and some tips for enjoying them and keeping them out of bird feeders. Meet in the Community Building.
Art show, classes on the schedule
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s 3-D Art Show runs through Sept. 4 at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.
PAS also offers a variety of art classes, including:
• Jewelry Class with Tracy Davidson (ages 22 and up) — 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 25. Participants will make a sterling figure 8 bracelet/anklet with a hallmark tag and matching clasp. Instruction will include how to form and solder links. This class is open to adults age 22 and up. Cost: $65.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St., and its regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Concert in the Park set for Aug. 25
PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Band of Arabians and Madison County Band Directors Jazz Orchestra will perform a Concert in the Park at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, near the Falls Park Gazebo.
There is no admission charge. People can bring their own chairs or blanket.
Refreshments will be available for purchase.
PAS Third Annual Plein Air Competition
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Third Annual Plein Air Competition is Sept. 28.
The competition is open to any painter. There will be three divisions in the competition: Division 1, Adults; Division 2, children up to age 14 (must be accompanied by an adult); Division 3, ages 14-18.
This is an open-air painting using any medium, no size limitations. Framing is optional. In case of rain, participants may complete their work from any protected area of their choosing. Participants are welcome to paint around downtown Pendleton and surrounding parks and historical settings.
Participants may register either online at https://pasgallery119.org/ or at the headquarters at Gallery 119, 119 W. State Street, Pendleton. Check-in time is 9-10 a.m. There will be an entry fee of $25 for adult or $30 on same-day registration. Youth registration is $10 each.
A light lunch will be provided.
Art created the day of the event will be displayed in Gallery 119 and judged. Winners will be announced following the judging. Judge is Marylin Witt.

American Legion plans activities
PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:
Aug. 31 — Second annual golf scramble; sign team up at the post
Sept. 9 — new chicken noodle dinner
Sept. 14 — al-you-can-eat breakfast returns
Sept. 17 — band Stella Luna returns
Regular events
All-you-can-eat wings — 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.
Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays, until food runs out.
Happy Hour — 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
Treasure Hunt drawing — 7 p.m. Fridays
The Legion’s general membership meeting is 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month. Public is welcome.

ParkFest 2024 set for Sept. 5
PENDLETON — The fouth annual ParkFest is set for Thursday, Sept. 5, at Barnhart Field in Pendleton.
Featured entertainment includes Stella Luna and the Satellites beginning at 7 p.m.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and other activities include a picnic space decorating contest with prizes, children’s play area and chalk drawing contest.
Food trucks will be serving.
Tickets cost $15 (or four-pack for $40); children 10 years old and younger enter free of charge.

Parking will be available in Falls Park, YMCA and Alvin D. Brown Memorial Pool. Golf cart parking entrance is off of Water Street.
Proceeds benefit the Falls Park amphitheater project.
Lapel Lions Club plans annual fish fry
LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club will play host to its 78th annual all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7, at the Lions Building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.
Friends group plans for Lucky Duck Race
PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Library’s Lucky Duck Race is set for 2 p.m. Sept. 7 in Falls Park near the falls.
The event raises funds to help Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.
People can sign up for a duck at the library or during one of the following events: INCourage 5K and Kids Color Run — July 13; Pendleton Indiana Farmers Market — July 20, Aug. 10; and Heritage Fair — Sept. 6-7.
Friends is a non-profit organization that aims to enhance library resources, services, programs and community outreach.

Town seeks input on revitalization plan
PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton is in the early stages of submitting a planning grant application to Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to develop a new Downtown Revitalization Plan.
Planning grants are funded with Federal Community Development Block Grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The program aims to encourage communities to plan for long-term holistic community development.
