PENDLETON — The new Memorial Garden outside Pendleton Historical Museum is complete, including new sections of split rail fence framing the space and more.

In addition to the fencing, “the stone is new, the mulching, and there are new plants .. and an irrigation system,” said Nancy Noel, president of the museum board. “The money came from a grant we received from the South Madison Community Foundation.”

The grant was for $3,000, but the work ended up costing $4,600, which the museum ended up taking from its budget.

The garden gets its name from the fund the museum has to keep the garden in good shape: The Memorial Fund. People can donate to the fund in memory of a loved one.

“Monies donated to the Memorial Fund, that money will be used to maintain the garden,” Noel said.

The garden currently runs along the south and west sides of the museum, but it could grow.

“Eventually, if we get everything under control, we might go to the east,” Noel said.

The museum, located on Falls Park Drive, is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays through October. It will be closed Saturday, July 13, for the INCourage run/walk event.
