Jones, Spencer win titles for runner-up Arabians

FORTVILLE — Led by a pair of champions, Pendleton Heights finished runner-up in the Hoosier Heritage Conference boys track and field championships May 9 at Mt. Vernon High School.

Milan Jones won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:32.37. Nate Spencer cleared 6’2” to win the high jump.

Pendleton Heights finished with 104 points, .5 ahead of third-place host Mt. Vernon. New Palestine won the event with 135.5 points.

Along with the individual champions, the Arabians scored well in a number of other events.

Caden McClain bolstered Pendleton Heights’ efforts in the high jump, adding a third-place finish, clearing 5’8”.

The Arabians were second and fourth in the 110 high hurdles. Seth Ledford was edged out for the win by Mt. Vernon’s Brent Donaldson, who crossed the tape in 15.89 seconds. Ledford finished in 15.92. Ethan Schitter was fourth at 17.31.

In the 300 hurdles, Ledford and Schitter were third and fifth, respectively. Ledford finished in 42.26 seconds. Schitter was clocked at 43.34 seconds.

Schitter and Trevor Ellyson both scored in the long jump. Schitter was third with a leap of 20’ 2½”. Ellyson was seventh at 19’ 3½”.

Nick Taylor and Levi Rodriguez scored in the pole vault. Taylor placed fourth (12 feet), and Rodriguez finished seventh (10 feet).

The Arabian quartet of Kyle Drinkut, Jayden Wenning, Caleb Harrington and Sean Roan placed second to New Palestine in the 4×800 relay, finishing in 8:26.97.

Andrew Harvey also took home a couple of ribbons. The Arabians thrower was second in the shot put (51’ 3”) and seventh in the discus (113’ 2½”).

Roan added a third in the 3,200 run (10:21.44). Wenning was fourth in the 800 run (2:03.42).

In the other relay races, the Arabians, behind Ledford, Ethan Ross, Seth Leicht and Ellyson, were third in the 4-by-400 relay (3:36.22). Pendleton Heights was fourth in the 4-by-100 relay (45.72 seconds) with the crew of McClain, Quinten Evans, Jayden Watson and Schitter.

The team will return to Mt. Vernon at 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 16, for sectional.
